Movie Poster & Earthsea

Sunday, May 31, 2009

I promised to show, and I'm done with them so here's my movie poster:

and here's my synopsis page:

all images and design concepts Copyright Vina Kosasih

I'm supposed to be doing my flipbook right now but I'm kinda lazy ;((
Yeechk! Plus I haven't been feeling too well. It's the weather I tell you... it makes you sick. Anyway, yesterday I finished reading this book: The Earthsea Quartet by Ursula le Guin!!

It's so GOOOOD!!! I loved "The Farthest Shore" the best!!! Aaaa~ the most epic fantasy book I've ever read.

It wasn't enough, after reading that book. I wanted more. So I searched the RMIT library for more books under "Earthsea", and I found... another book! AND a video recording!!! OMG!!! When I checked out the DVD, turns out it's by STUDIO GHIBLI!!! I was utterly shocked beyond words. Very very happy.

When googling I found out that this picture is actually from Earthsea:

And I had it quite some time ago when I was researching for my patterns project.

Anyway, I'm very happy~ I'm returning the Earthsea Quartet soon to the library so if any RMIT people are reading, BORROW IT!!! O_O But DON'T borrow the other book yet!! I want to renew it! Don't you dare put a hold on it :@ :@

aaaa can't wait can't wait~

Shoot Pics

Friday, May 29, 2009

Okay so as promised, I shall post my movie poster photo shoot results... well, some of them. Even though it is quite embarrassing but I post them for you so if you have any insults, bind them to yourselves!!!

If you're thinking how pale I am, well, it's on purpose.

In most pictures I was told to forcefully shut up after fits of laughing.

I'm using the second photo for my poster, and when it's done I'll blog that too! Since I've shown the photos anyway... >_> myeh. Oh and if you look close enough you can see the thick long veins practically coming out of my neck... I know, freaky. I'm so tempting to the vampires now.

Yesterday I helped Juen take her photos again. She needed a re-shoot. So off we went to Melbourne Uni! It wasn't raining before and after the shoot, only during. Which was... quite mean of the weather. But thanks to that, Juen used my yellow umbrella, which looked great! But her pastels were ruined coz of the rain... ^_^"

And after that cold cold photo shoot, we went to Bourke Street's pancake parlor! Weee!

Chibinized!

I loved the warm, homey interior of the restaurant

And we ordered Alice In Wonderland pancake!! It was ooohhh good =w=

I simply cannot resist cold ice cream on warm pancake. The best combination ever!!!

Drool, readers, droool

On another note, I've been quite a workaholic recently. Maybe it's because there are so many projects to finish, so I've managed my time and thus become 500% efficient. Because you know what, I'm finished with my 3 cards! Yayy! Just need the final tweaking and printing. And I'm also almost done with my movie poster =3 Not including the synopsis pages and all that.

go go go!

Movie Poster Photoshoot Commences!!!

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

HELLO~

I just had my movie poster photo shoot with Juen today! For mine, we took it in the backyard because there were wooden planks and the setting just suited. An hour before her expected arrival, I put on my make-up. I was supposed to look pale, so I put toooonnnnsssss of foundation and powder all over my face, eyelid, lips, neck. And then a liiiittle bit of pink on my eyelids which wasn't visible at all actually. Plus mascara which I don't usually wear.

As I was applying them, I heard this familiar noise... turns out it was raining!!! I was dismayed. The wooden planks became wet... So I'd have to lie down on wet leaves!! Yeeeuuuckk!

Juen came. We mopped the wooden planks, and wiped it with tissue. Not the whole place, but mostly the area around the head. Then we took the bag of dried leaves I collected yesterday and let out everything on the semi-wet planks. I stood, looking at Juen. I didn't want to lie down there!!! But I did of course, in the end.

Juen said my face looked like bread. Funny, I've never heard anyone describe a face as bread. So that kept me laughing when I was supposed to look like a pale, serene maiden in distress. Do you know how hard it is to get that expression btw? I don't think I got it.

Halfway through the shoot, Juen stepped on Chiko's poo! And poor ol' me had to lie down next to her soiled sandals ;(( Though I'm used to smelling dog wastes (being a dog owner myself), it's a completely different story when you're lying down on wet leaves, knowing there's a moist pile somewhere near you!!!

Anyway. Juen took great photographs for me!! Thank you thank you!!! Xie xie, arigatou!! On the other hand, the photos I took for her weren't that great v.v I'm so sorry... feel so bad... Maybe I'm not fit for art directing and photography T.T Need to practise...

For Juen's photo shoot, it was supposed to be at my front yard, where the floor is grey concrete. But Juen insisted we go to my neighbour, and take it on THEIR front yard!! O.o I don't even know those people... But I don't think they are home often, so... hopefully they didn't see us trespassing their territory with chalks against their floor. Not like we drew anything on it...

So yeah I don't have the photos with me right now, they are with Juen. But I shall get them tomorrow. And I might post some up! For now adios~

Leaf-Picking

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

This is the last week of Year 1 Semester 1 for me... wow time flies sooo fast, cliched as it is...! But really! I can't believe it o_o sooo faassst! Seems like it was just... 2 or 3 weeks ago...

Anyway. My final folio submission deadline is coming near! Wooohooo! Ahhhaaha actually to be honest I'm not stressed out or anything. Not yet anyway. Everything's fine fine. They're all due 9 June... all of them. And I need to sort out any missing works cause they're all going in the folio.

Tomorrow Juen will come to me house to take photographs of each other for the movie poster. And since I would be lying on a pile of autumn leaves, I went leaf-picking just now!

Yeaa the garbage plastic bag from my brother turned out to be very useful to me after all! I filled the whole bag! Believe it or not. It is a big bag, as you can see...

Compare it to my handphone.
Since autumn is almost coming to an end, all the good big maple leaves are already thrown or burnt, so I was quite at loss at first. But after walking a long distance down my neighborhood, I managed to get quite a few good leaves!

My favourite, also the last one I picked:

Do not mind the ugly background...

Even though of course I adjusted the levels of the photographs, the real thing was also very bright red.
And the bottom part of the leaves are yellow.

People from RMIT would see these photos and think about our project from David. Nyehh...

Anyway yeah. I shall be busy, hopefully not too much. But I reckon I won't have a single day of doing no work. Need to put things together asap...

Santa and things

Friday, May 22, 2009

My Mobile Blog feature doesn't work currently... don't know why T_T it worked yesterday...

So I wanted to show you guys pictures of Santa after his weekly drink :)

Isn't he pretty?? ^_^ *proud*

Many many buds have been appearing all over the place. I'll show you some...

And that little bundle on Santa's crown.

And many more ^_^ this young one keeps growing and growing. It's wonderful!

I watched Dogville movie today. Philosophical movie, that one. It got me thinking (which I do a lot these days) about human greed. I'm too lazy to type here but yeah.

It seems that I think a lot when I'm silent and relaxed. Especially during these two moments: when I'm having a shower, when I am on the bed before sleep. Because it is only then the world is completely still and silent for me and then the mind can think about many things and go on various philosophical explorations.

Not that I am that philosophically wise or anything but it's quite interesting to me - philosophy that is.

Anyway, enough about that kind of talk. I'm getting sick of it =D

I want to go back to Indo and play Ragnarok Online private server!!!! Anyone who wants to join, come on! =DD I will play with my brother warnet style in either his/my room.

I also want to play Sims 3! I saw the case at the CD store in front of Melbourne Central Station and was ecstatic. But it wasn't available yet. It just said "pre-order now and get special bonus CD" something something.

And and and I want to watch Sweeney Todd so much T.T but the library doesn't have it.

Okay I'll be off now. Just came to randomly rant and show you guys photos. Cao~

Perfume Movie

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

I just finished watching this movie called Perfume: Story of a Murderer.

What an amazing poster isn't it??? I love it.

Anyway, this story is about a young man who grew up being absurdly sensitive towards the sense of smell. A million praises for the director - I really felt like I was looking through the character's eyes, smelling what he smelled. The setting was also very realistic and just absolutely wonderful. I loved each and every character in this movie - they were all so full of personality... even the 800 individual extras. Many details were also thoroughly covered and in one scene, you can notice several things happening and they're all so wonderful.

Probably you're getting sick of me singing praises about this and that. But the point of this blog post, is how after watching the movie, I became very much aware of the things around me. I was sprawled on my bed then, and I started to smell my skin. I also smelled my hair, clothes, bedsheet, pillow... you may think it odd when you read this, but if you've watched the movie, you'll understand.

I think of all our senses, smell is very often overlooked. We think that when we are sitting idly in a room, we smell nothing. But if you really do concentrate, and breathe deeply, you can smell something. I tried it just now, eyes closed. Couldn't really smell anything distinctive at first, but I kept breathing in, and I noticed something mild in the air - that is the scent of wood. It was my table.

And it was as if I had connected with my body more than ever, and I started to sense things consciously. I was aware of the texture of my mattress, the strands of my hair, little sounds... So often, and so used to these things we humans are, we never really think about letting ourselves stop for a moment and feel the little details of our environment. When you really do that, it feels like suddenly, you are... well, solid. And so are all the other objects. And you interact with them - touch them, feel them, hear the different sounds they make - and all of a sudden it becomes quite interesting. It is hard to explain. And you may not feel the same way I do. We are all different after all.

I think it's quite amazing how a single movie can make an audience have a new perspective of the world. The story of one man, let he be fictional, can inspire others so greatly. The movie was adapted from a novel written by Patrick Suskind. It took him 5 years. I wonder how it felt writing that novel, because it seems to me like such a very humane and honest story (although Jean-Baptiste the main character lacked the more humane way of "working", but... his aim in the end is a very natural thing wasn't it?).

I also stumbled to a movie review website thing just now and saw comments on Perfume. Let's just say it wasn't completely on one side. Some people hated it, others like me enjoyed it. I don't know what is there not to like though. A few said it was boring. On the other hand it was completely arresting for me. 2.5hours passed by without a moment of boredom. I was engrossed in all the audiovisual elements, and also the characters.

But then again you might not like it. For me the movies that are on my top list are those with great visual qualities, and a moving, inspiring story. Those that have artistic lead characters are even more interesting. Artists have a different way of thinking after all, that can be quite inspiring.

I Didn't Break a Mirror, So Why?

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

I know I promised to blog about the Japan festival, but not now guys. I've been very busy lately... projects are piling up... the end of the semester is near. Can you believe it, I've gone through half of my first year in uni. only 2.5 years left.

So anyway, I'm blogging about this now because I don't want to forget this day and I know if I delay this I will never blog about it and will forget it in the future. So here goes...

Woke up in the morning on time today, had breakfast and all that. One time I was closing the bedroom door and suddenly I cut my finger. Didn't know how it happened, it was like magic. Blood came out and all that but it was a relatively small cut so I just used anticeptic and a bandaid. Everything else was right. No running late. I went out of the house, walking slowly taking my time. No train to run for, I was right on schedule, early even.

Halfway down the road, there was a construction site, and as I walked around some pile of rocks, I slipped on one and tripped. Didn't fall, but I felt something was not right. I looked down at my foot to see the strap of my slippers were broken. Since I was early anyway, I dismissed this little accident, quickly strode back home, changed into sneakers, and went out again. I was very fast, because if I missed the next train I would've been very late.

So I reached Camberwell, and I saw there was already a train at the place where I usually take my change. I ran inside and fortunately I got in in time. What was wrong about this, was that it was a train to Flinders St, not City Loop train. So I apparantly got on the wrong train... Okay, no panick. I still had time, could still get off at Richmond and get on the City Loop.

However I had to wait an extra 8 minutes doing so...

But I reached the class in time nonetheless, only a mere 5 minutes late and that didn't matter. I sat down and did some uni survey with the others, when this girl beside me showed her friend her proofsheet, which is due today. I was baffled. I just remembered that I left mine at home! And I've completed the proofsheet sooo long ago, the day after it was issued.

Angry at myself and very weary, I decided to go home again to get it back... Yes I know, sigh. So I went on the damned train again, very very pissed. Then I saw this teenage boy sitting several seats across me with his pet dog, a Great Dane, lying on the floor. It pleased me to see a dog, and my hands were itching to touch it, but I kept my distance. At the next stop, the people who were sitting close to it went off and the two seats beside the owner were empty. Then the dog actually went up the seats! And it took up both seats... I was going to sit there to pet it but since the seat was taken up by the dog, I tried to put the thought away.

Then as if it read my mind, the dog shifted to one side and so only took up one seat, leaving the other empty!

I couldn't take it anymore, I didn't care. I stood up and walked awkwardly towards them then sat beside the dog who was between me and his master. I looked at the teen and asked him if I could pet the dog and he said yeah. The canine, tail wagging as I sat down, suddenly LICKED my face with his big long tongue. I gasped, shocked. And I felt the colour rise to my cheeks. It was a happy moment. The owner, who was my age btw, didn't respond to any of this, and at the next stop, he tightened the leash and they went down the train.

He must have not liked me.

I felt sad because my companion was taken away from me and I was left desolate and feeling down again.

Reaching Camberwell, I went to the usual place where I wait for the Alamein train. However, it was Belgrave train... then it was the Lilydale train in 9 minutes... Alamein train never came. This Indian lady asked me whether the train from across us was going to Alamein and me being pissed, I just replied curtly saying it wasn't taking any passengers. Because in my knowledge so far, those trains never do. I always take the train to Alamein in that one particular platform. After a while, I saw the lady go up the bridge to go to the platform with the train she pointed out. I shook my head and thought "well, I guess it's not her fault entirely she doesn't trust a single person's speech".

But how wrong I was. Because suddenly, that train MOVED. In the direction of Alamein. I watched the lady who's already settled in the carriage, and saw the words "alamein" printed on the train screen.

I would have screamed. DAMNIT DAMNIT DAMNIT!!! I waited SO LONG in this stupid platform when the train was there all along! In the other platform! Way over there! Gah! I spent all that time and now I have to hurry even more...

After finally getting on the Alamein train, I ate my salad lunch while on the carriage, walked home, microwaved 2 pre-cooked chickens to eat, got my proofsheet, walked back to the station again. Didn't even have the time to stop. I brought my book Earthsea Quartet with me to read so I wouldn't feel so fidgety and pissed.

It was noon and the sun was getting very hot. I took off my knit wool jacket and stuffed it into my bag. I wasn't aware when it fell out onto the dirty, dusty concrete, and I STEPPED on it. With my sneakers.

I.was.so.effing.pissed.

I threw my book (which was thick btw) onto a bench and it made this very loud BANG but I didn't care. No one was around anyway except for another Indian man stranger. I was in no mood to think about his(or anyone's) impression of me. I was becoming mad and the sun made it worse.

On the way to the city I had to get off and on the same train 3x to make sure it was a city loop train. It was quite embarassing but I wasn't in the mood to care, really.

Finally I reached RMIT. I was 8 minutes late for the next class, but when I reached there everyone was doing surveys so it didn't matter, I didn't miss anything.

Class was pretty okay. Nothing unlucky happened to me then, at least. I used a cutter and even after that I was still unharmed.

The session ended past 4:30PM. I was mentally fatigued. It was a tiring one. I made my way to the Music Club building which was VERY VERY far away. I had to take the video documentation today. So even though I was tired and reluctant, I walked there, thinking how after that I could at least go home having one thing one.

I went the wrong direction twice. Twice.

I walked straight down this road with my mind somewhere else and when I realised it, I saw myself in an unfamiliar surrounding. Spacing out. Oh yes, so very Vina. So I stopped in my track, and this blonde girl in a dress walked past me. Then I turned around, and walked in the direction she went. She must have thought I was stalking her, for she kept turning around with this look and started walking faster and faster. I wasn't, of course. Duh. Just because you were wearing some pretty dress doesn't make me want to stalk you, damn narcist person.

Finally I found the music room after much effort. The reason why it was harder to find it this time was because, I realised, the door had been open last time. This time it was closed. I turned the knob. And it remained closed.

I became quite violent.

But the door didn't budge. I couldn't believe it, I was exasperated. I came all this way... to this... Very depressedly, I made my way back... But before the train station, I dropped by the library first to return the book overdue. Then I walked to the station... went in the train... reached Camberwell... went down, and saw that the Alamein train is only due in 2 minutes still. So I walked quite leisurely, and when I was still going uphill, suddenly the train arrived!!! I was like WTF!!?!?!? Since when did "2 Minutes" change to "NOW"???

So I ran. Bags bouncing things clattering pants NOT falling, thank god. Uphill, downhill... why does Camberwell need to have a stupid overhead bridge? Don't they know how troublesome it is to get from platform to platform???

Fortunately I got in the train. Didn't miss it. If I did... hmph. Wrist cutting for me. =.= But I was rather breathless nonetheless.

So I reached home, after a while had dinner... all was good. Then I went on to wash my dishes.

When I wash dishes, I wear a glove. Everyone in the house do. We all share the same glove that's beside the sink. I finished washing, and I was going back to my room, when I realised... hey, the bandaid on my finger is gone.

I groaned. No, no, no! How could even THIS happen??? I yelled at Listy who was washing, and she didn't even realise the bandaid was there... well, it was stuck to her finger, actually. Funny.

Then I went back to my room, and started typing, and suddenly the little cut split open again. Oh hello again blood!

Hi guys I'm wearing Red Rhinos house shirt =D wee wee I'm very eye-baggy today.

Stayed home whole day doing nothing in particular. Read a few blogs here and there, played Farm Town in Facebook which -sorry- sucks, watched a bit of Youtube, stared at Santa who's grown...

Yep mundane stuff. So here now I'm blogging because I feel like it. What should I talk about? Hmmmmm............

Read blogs just now. And I noticed that my 3 pals Daryl Sammy and Chu are doing great in terms of their education! ^^ Yaaay congrats guys congrats.

It seems classmates in BBS are having their finals now let's wish them good luck. They will all graduate soon and I'm very curious to know where they will all go to. WHO'S COMING TO MELB??? =D

I wonder what career everyone will pursue... And things like who's gonna get married first... who's gonna have an affair... who's gonna be the most successful... who will have a complete facial plastic surgery... Actually the first two is still pretty far-fetched since most of us are still 17 this year ^^ wow we're young!

I've been wanting to make a dream diary recently because my dreams are quite awesome and it be a shame if I just forget them. But sadly me's too lazy to since they are all toooooooo elaborate and I know if I had to write down my dreams it would take up pages for a single one and where would I find the time to do that, early in the morning before I forget? Late for uni all the way!

...Okay I feel I'm boring you. Let's just share some pictures I have then. Feast your eyes! :D

Omg. I find that so funny. Well gross yes but for some reason when I stare at it I laugh.

Those cubemelons ain't photoshopped!

Some of you might've seen them on my MSN display picture.

Oh and of course, today is Mother's Day!!!

Flowers for my mom from me, my brother and my Dad:

Gucci...gucci... I miss gucci :((

I'm going back to Indo next month! Let's put a countdown on the sidebar! Can't wait to go home.

the past few days... agIdeas 2009

Friday, May 8, 2009

HELLO EVERYBODY!

Aah feels good to be back. I sound like some person giving a speech on stage or some celebrity and the kinds. Must be the influence of having 3 days of mind-battering agIdeas!

So what's agIdeas? It's a forum event where great designers - local and international - gather at Melbourne to give us a 20-minute talk on design. So one designer 20 minutes... which is a time frame they don't really stick to actually so yeah. And after one is done, the other goes up and it's like a non-stop thing for almost a whole working day yep.

Sounds pretty tiring. Hearing people talk. Paying over AU$300 to hear some people talk. Some of you are going what the fuc--- yeah. But really, it was pretty worth it. I mean. $300? Lunch and dinner for 15 days in melbourne you can get with that sum. But well for those who can afford it I say go.

If you can afford it but you just KNOW you won't be able to stand listening to people talk and would end up getting totally bored and end up not learning anything from it, don't go. Or go once and see how it is for ya. Because I know how it can be boring at times. Damn, I remember that speaker and that speaker... made me very sleepy. But I don't sleep at public places, and I happen to have a rather high tolerance of 'boring stuff'. So I still hung on.

But aside from all that boring parts, some speakers were just very inspiring! I listen to them and just admire them for their humour, maturity, confidence and wisdom. Oh and of course, creativity. They can have this great power over you and move you to clap even when no one's clapping and I did that once seriously and thank god people followed my clapping or it would be soooo awkward.

I mean the guy did a good job! Ain't nothin' wrong with clapping for that!

So to sum it up there were around 44 speakers in total, and how many ever thousands of audiences. Point is ticket sold out.

To those interested, this here is a list of some designers who spoke to us... I'm not going to type them all down okay but here are the ones I liked:
*actually, not all of them are designers. but all creative people
Shannon Bennett
Jill Bilcock
Chris Bosse
Andrea Innocent
Etienne Mineur
John Marsden
ENESS
Charlton Hill
Richard Hoare (Breville)
Philip Millar
Stanley Wong
Luca Missoni

And some other apparantly very famous ones but I didn't like them as much as the people on the above list:

Monster Children
Soap
Tobias Frere-Jones

Luca Missoni might be more famous to our young readers here, he is a fashion designer from Italy here I shall show you guys some of his beauuuutiful works:

Yep. Expensive stuff. Great patterns, gorgeous colours.
Alright done with agIdeas stuff! For two days I slept in my bro's apartment. Here's him playing his bass... he keeps asking me about how it sounded etc etc and trying to make me impressed because I never once told him it sounded "excellent" or anything like that. I have high standards you see. Even higher when we have just finished watching movie The Pianist. I have Chopin and only Chopin's beautiful music in my head...

Also when watching The Pianist, Dorota played Bach's Prelude No.1 on the cello and it sounded astounding. Makes me want to play it too! I have the music sheet but so far can only play the top half of the song... and with great difficulty and abundant mistakes. ;_;
For curious minds, here is the song:

Not the best version there is, but yeah. the version in The Pianist was really good but I can't find it.
For dinner my brother and I had these:

Okonomiyaki and fries in mexican sauce!!!
I see some salivating people! 8D
