Saturday and Sunday Too

Sunday, November 30, 2008

Aaah what a nice weekend I had.

Saturday... I watched two movies - Quantum of Solace and Twilight (at 11.oopm). Now... if it seems weird for me to watch these movies, actually, my Dad bought the tickets, so...

Why did I not want to watch Quantum of Solace? It's a Bond movie after all! Well, let's just say I was traumatized by Eagle Eye, a horrible experience of action movie (I know some people like this, but have you watched 'Phone Booth'???)

Okay sorry but I will divert the topic to Eagle Eye for a bit, to share with you all this:

"Earlier this month, Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks got sued for allegedly lifting the plot of 2007's Disturbia from Rear Window. It won't help their case that Eagle Eye (DreamWorks), the latest collaboration between executive producer Spielberg, star Shia LaBeouf, and director D.J. Caruso, borrows its innocent-man-on-the-run premise from North by Northwest—there's even a scene where, as in Hitchcock's crop-duster sequence, the protagonist gets attacked by faceless adversaries in an open field in the middle of the day.

...

That prospect doesn't last very long. Spielberg and Caruso forgot to include Phone Booth in their list of movies to rip off—the key to that 2003 thriller is that the man behind the demented voice isn't revealed until the final moments. "

Alright back to 007. In a nutshell, I AM PLEASED with this movie. The action scenes leave me breathless. Very exciting and thrilling. If you are in an action-movie-trauma like I am, watch this. It's a cure.

Oh and this movie made me realise one aspiration for the future: own a luxurious car. Yes I will do it.

And, I finally bought this:

It's uh... I can't remember the precise name of it, but it goes somewhere along the lines of 'Nail Shine' from Body Shop. Susan recommended it to me, actually, and she used it on my nails. But the shine has started to fade away, and so now I bought one for myself.

This one has 3 sides. There are those with 2 sides, and 4 sides. Let me explain how to use it. First, use the black coloured side, then the grey (the one beside it), and finally, use the green one, which is the biggest portion:

The finished product:

Aah isn't it beautiful? It looks like I put on some nail polish or nail shine, but I didn't do anything of the sort. And my nails are now glossy and very nice to touch. Thank you Susan!

So after all that, I went back home. Then at around 10:15pm, left to Puri Mall again to catch Twilight.

Well, many people know I absolutely detest the book. But! The movie was actually pretty okay! In fact, it was so much better than the book. I don't know for sure how that is possible since it usually isn't the case, but here is a slideshow called :

Warning spoiler alert in the slideshow, and in the following paragraphs
'28 Reasons That 'Twilight' the Movie is Better Than 'Twilight' the Book'

I think the absolute main reason why the movie is better than the book is, well, it's not too elongated with cheesy, repeated lines, scenes, and Edward is not brooding 24/7. There is pleasant humour which I enjoyed in the movie (the graduation hats are hilarious), and I think the additional scenes are really great (such as Edward taking Bella up the tree. Wow, great scenery. Also, pepper spray from Daddy?).

Many Edward Cullen fans probably complain about Robert Pattinson not living up to their imagination. By the way, I think his Dad his hotter, if only without that too obviously fake make-up which didn't cover up the bottom of his eyelid. Speaking of the ugly and the beautiful, Rosalie is so damn ugly in the movie!!! Omg. Isn't she supposed to be some elegant beauty queen as described in the book? Alice also looks weird. The only cast which suits the character is probably, in my opinion, only Bella Swan. I love her Dad, by the way. Funny guy.

So yeah. Movie is better than book for me. More fast-paced, less brooding, less overly cheesy romantic lines. It cured my utterly negative impression of Twilight. Meyer still has a long way to go I say.

Spoiler ends here.

Finished the movie at around 1:00am. Slept at 2:00am. Then I had this really...weird dream...

In my dreams, I was, starting out, as I remember, stuck on an island. I had to find a way back to Indonesia. My plan was to go to Singapore, where my parents would pick me up at the airport and bring me back. I only had so little money left. I couldn't waste a dime. I remember it was night. Ratna and I had on backpacks, and we prepared ourselves by wearing those headlights banded around your head. In front of us, was the dark swamp, close to the ocean. We proceeded into the water.

At times, I dipped my head down into the water, just to make sure there were no foreign aquatic creatures. Water is not my best habitat. Once or twice, Ratna shouted to warn me from shark attacks. Over nights and days, we just walked on, never feeling tired nor hungry. Sometimes, we climbed up the waterbank to proceed on land. Mostly, we were waist-deep in murky water.

Finally, we reached a small island, Nauru*. There, Ratna and I separated ways. I went to the small airport, furnished by old, flimsy wooden planks nailed together. It was my first time buying my own ticket. I asked the old lady about the tickets, and finally bought one. I kept it safe in my pocket.

Afterwards, I rested in a white caravan. I bought sandwiches for lunch. A little girl approached me. She was holding a bunch of flowers. Tiny, round flowers, I remember in purple, white, and yellow. She asked me if I would like one. I didn't have much on me, but I gave the girl a dollar, and she gave me the palm-sized purple flower, which resembled a premature lavender. She left, happy.

I continued with my lunch, when, all of a sudden, from the mines across the caravan, there was a loud rumbling, followed with a gigantic mushroom-shaped explosion. I panicked, and started packing my things. It took me a while. Then I escaped by car.

In Singapore, I was deciding, with Ratna which motel we would stay in for the night. They were all in shambles, dirty, concrete. I hardly minded. Beggars can't be choosers. For lunch, we met a couple of friends, and went for Shabu Shabu. In attempt to save money, I only ordered a plate of tofu. Ratna, however, ordered a whole set of extravagant food. I was surprised. I tried reminding Ratna that we were on a budget, but she shrugged it off.

...Weird dream isn't it? The longest part was when we were venturing through the swamps, and when the little girl sold me the flowers. I remember it clearly.

*In my long essay for English, I wrote about Nauru. So that is most likely why it appeared in my dreams. Note that the location doesn't particularly make sense.

Well, I woke up then.Went down, and apparantly my Mom and Dad are watching The Omen (2006), which has been in my DVD rack for ages but remain untouched.

I watched the older version back in primary school. So even though I didn't remember everything, the whole movie is basically almost the same. At the last scene, though, when Robert was supposed to (spoiler) kill a screaming and kicking Damien but failed to since the police shot him,... (spoiler ends) Whew. This wave of adrenaline violence came over me.

(Warning: visually/imaginatively violent content) I HATE THAT DAMN KID SO MUCH!!! I seriously just wanted to...to... pinch his soft childish little skin with a pair of scissors, claw out his eyeballs, skewer up his nose hole, and rip off all the hair on his puny evil little head.

Then I shall make him look like these Chucky dolls:

DIIIEEE DAMIEN JUST DIIIEEEE!!!!

Poor Robert and Kate T_T

(end of visual/imaginative violence)

Positive and Negative

Friday, November 28, 2008

Look at that. Isn't she cute? Peeking at me from up the stairs. If you happen to think she is in a weird position, well, those two white things hanging down the stairs are not her legs... Well, one is, but the other is her ear.

School was bliss. Why? Because it was only from 8am to 11am. Great isn't it? I went to Plaza Senayan after school, looking for an organizer. I saw one in Puri yesterday and wanted to buy it but I thought perhaps there will be better ones in Kinokuniya. So I left it first.

On the way to Plaza Senayan, I ran out of drinking water. It was hell. My throat was like... burning. And... whew. I don't know. My throat is dehydrating really quickly today. I wonder why.
My throat hurt so much, I was scavenging any single droplet of water I could get gold of.

So! I reached Kinokuniya. Saw several organizers here and there. Then I saw these:

Well. Cushion-y texture... pretty colours... and bling. Oh and if you're wondering, the excessive shiny-ness of the organizers is caused by the plastic bag it was in. Not the leather... thing. I had a hard time deciding. I tried holding each of the books in my hands.

Black... too gothic for some very odd reason
Pink... too girly for my brute hands
White... too... bright? For my skin colour?

Okay bad excuses but hey. Point is, none of them seem to suit me. I know I'm being as picky as a lady trying to get her wedding dress. It is just an organizer after all. But since buying one of those will cost me Rp. 259, 000, I should be picky, shouldn't I?

In the end, after calling Susan and having long discussions, I decided not to buy it. The organizer I saw in Puri will be my choice.

On the other side of things... Kinokuniya has many Japanese-y things. Such as these pencil boxes:

Oh crap. If it were me from a year ago, I would go hyper and buy all 3 pencil boxes. However! I think my taste has changed O_o ... I am no longer madly into Japanese objects. Well, still am, but not to that standard. What has happened to me that I would actually prefer simple, clean designs?

Mad isn't it? Anyway. Remember I mentioned the difficulty of finding music sheets for violin in Jakarta? Well, Kinokuniya has a rather large collection of music sheets... well, not that large. Compared to the ones in Gramedia it is. Alas, they are, as expected, mostly for piano. And orchestras. I couldn't find one book for violin solo. I did see a book on Vivaldi - The Four Seasons (complete with the CD), but I wasn't too sure about it. It was sealed, I was too lazy to ask.

So after looking through four racks, I conclude that there isn't a single damn book solely on Violin solos. If there was, it slipped.

After long hours in Kinokuniya, I didn't actually buy a single item. I went back home, planning to go to Puri Mall to get my organizer. But before that, I did some... self-photo taking.

I have to say, again, even though I've said it before on my Mobile Blog, that my nose is actually mancung (Gosh what is that in English again?) when seen from a 45 degrees angle! My actual nose is... round and ... bulbous... well.
And here is me hugging a big white doll (she does look like one doesn't she?):

What is so hard about taking pictures with your dog? IT FRIKIN MOVES:

and moves:

=_= I'd be lucky just to get a single shot where Gucci is not blurred and is actually facing the camera. Oh wow she looks gigantic in the photos doesn't she?
And here are the three foxy (right) ladies of the household:

Whoa my Mom is super white-skinned. She looks like those Chinese ladies from olden days in this picture. Her skin is almost as white as Gucci's fur. Shocker.
Change of venue! I moved on to my indoor garden, where it was really sunny, and everything looks warm coloured:
Ha! I like that picture!
It was so sunny in fact, that I decided to... suntan! In the middle of the broad daylight, at a garden, yes.
Oops. Forgot to rotate that. Well whatever. Point is, that's me lying down, enjoying the sun.
And as I looked up, I was unexpectedly faced by this beautiful blue sky:

After all that, I left for Puri Mall. Went to Gramedia, and took out the organizer, which I had placed at the very corner of the rack so I wouldn't forget. And here it is!

Oooh I find it very classy. Grey cloth, and dark brown leather for the thing that encloses it.

Additionally, I also bought some super cheap (approx. Rp 8,500 each) stickers at Gramedia! Everything is cheap there! In Kinokuniya, stickers are Rp 45,000, and some Rp 75,000. Crazy isn't it?

Aaah I haven't bought stickers in so darn long. I got myself three sets, for the sole purpose of decorating the pages of my organizer.

Next, I wanted to buy something more girly to tone out my organizer. After a long time searching, I saw this, sold at a mere price of Rp. 20,000! There was a really cute Hello Kitty keychain with large roses and cute pink stuff in another store, but it costed Rp. 75,000, which I am so not going to get. So in the end I got this white-pink-gold-pearl-beads-cute thing:
Then, I attached it to my organizer. How did I do it, you ask? Long story. It's better not telling, but it involves attaching, detaching, strings, scissors, and knots. Here is the final product:
A touch of Japanese cuteness!
Oh and, I also bought a pen especially for the organizer. Here it is:
Can't spot it? There:

Ah yes I'm very happy with the results. SPEAKING OF RESULTS, I almost forgot to mention, I got a 19.5/20 for my Australian legal studies essay on Tort of Negligence!!! YAAAAAY!!!

Oh and back to the organizer. Yep, I'm planning to use it when I get to Australia. I guess people use electronic stuffs to replace organizers now, but I like it nonetheless and prefer paper to touch screens. In this situation only.
Oh and hey look, it was sunny before, now it's raining like mad:

UPDATE:
I think Sammy's depression virus has gotten into me. Yes, I was very hyped about going to Melbourne to study. It feels as though once I reach there, I am going to start a completely new and foreign life. It would be exciting, exuberant, challenging. I can hardly wait. That was, until, when I mentioned it to my Dad, he gave me a mournful expression.

Of course I know who would be the saddest for my departure to Australia. Obviously my Dad. And I feel that if it weren't for his sorrow, I wouldn't even be sad right now. I'm not sad leaving, but I'm sad because... well, just thinking about my father crying (which I bet for sure he will) for me, is just too heartbreaking. I know what kind of person he is. I hope he will continue living a good life happy even though both his children won't be there with him. I hope he will take good care of my Mom, and, as silly as it is, I hope Gucci can, even if just a little, fill the empty voids of his son and daughter. That is why I've been trying hard to make Mom and Dad fond of Gucci.

...okay Sammy your disease really got to me.

Anyway, after a while of bawling on the floor, I'm back here typing. Well, just to close up... I will go to Australia, study dilligently, gain lots of experiences, make my parents proud and show them their efforts so far haven't gone to waste. I don't know what awaits me in the future. But I'll accept any challenge they throw at me.

Good luck to me.

Excitement

Thursday, November 27, 2008

Hello! It's my day off today. It would be wise for me to write my thousand word essay due tomorrow, but I decided to have some fun first.

So as usual, I went to Susan's house. Brought my music stand, violin, and of course, sheets and books. I don't know if I mentioned this in the previous blog, but I printed out two duet pieces for violin. Plan to play them with Susan today. They don't seem that hard. Manageable. Mozart - Twelve Duets, and Bach - Air on G String.

Aah duets are fun. I needed to count a lot though. You know, tempo. I am extremely bad with tempo and beats or whatever you call it. I mess up the speed everytime, which is crucial for a harmonic duet.

And, after hours of playing, well, Susan rested for a while and she taught Ratna on the piano later on. I kept playing the violin though. Which resulted in...

At first my index, middle, and ring fingers were dark blue. Susan was shocked. She told me to stop playing for a while, but I played anyway. Then they turned almost black. You can't really see in the picture, which looks pretty normal, just a few shades darker, but in reality, it was... to the point of being scary in fact O_O

Oh and by the way, I can play Nocturne No.9/2 on the piano now!!! Well, only the right hand though -_-. Oh crap forgot I have to cancel my piano tuition. BRB phone.

...back. Better scratch that off my wishlist now.

Aaaanyway. I went to Puri Mall with Susan and Ratna. We watched this:

Yes, notice, JULY 11. But in Indonesia... well, it's in cinemas now. November.
Okay this movie is really good! It's very very exciting and funny. The three heroes face all sorts of obstacles that would be in blockbuster movies such as facing a huge storm, carnivorous animals, falling off cliffs, even escaping from lightning strikes. They are all very very exciting, and it's worth the watch (more than the recent movies I've watched these days). Although there is a scene which I didn't particularly like (because it's too soap opera-ish), but the rest is just bravo. I can't wait to experience this on 4D (if it ever will, or has it already? No idea). You all should watch it, if you haven't already.

Well, I will stop blogging her, since I actually have to do my essay now... It's worth 10 or 5% of my final English grade if I'm not mistaken. So yeah. See you!
PS: can't wait to go to RMIT.

Nocturne & RMIT Research

Simply. In Love. With that video!!!

I mean WOW, I think Colin Jacobsen (the violinist) really nailed this violin version (by Sarasate) of Chopin's Nocturne Op.9/2. I was trying to find the violin music score for several hours but couldn't find it. (Not that I expected my humble self to be able to play it, but I wanted to see it nonetheless)

Seriously. I have no idea where to buy violin music sheets here in Jakarta. I mean I see piano books a lot. But violin... unless I missed it when I was in the Yamaha store, it really is nowhere to be found. And Gramedia is hopeless. Try looking for music books in Gramedia, you will see what I mean. It is pretty pathetic the music books they have there. And not to mention they are all for piano, and a few guitar.

Speaking of piano, if you noticed, I cancelled out 'have piano lesson for the first time' off my wishlist. Well, it doesn't mean it's done, actually, I don't wish for it anymore. In fact, I want to cancel my application. Thank god I haven't paid for it.

Why? Let's just say 3 hours in Susan's house exposed to the piano and trying to play Nocturne Op.9/2 killed me. Yes, I know I should start off with an easy song first, but still. And plus, if you think about it, like Martin said to me today, December = lots of holidays. Mid-Feb = leave for Australia. So I'll just be wasting my money!

Therefore I shall stick to my beautiful violin. After playing the piano for a little while, I realised I like the violin better. Lol maybe it's because I can play it better than the piano obviously, but I just like the METHOD of playing the violin. I hate separating my mind into two different bars of notes like in piano. And in some songs, the violin sounds more passionate, and I like it that way.

On the other side of things, I had this sudden urge to google for RMIT students for some reason. I found several interesting things.

One, I have decided which club I want to join later on! Check out this .pdf file, which contains the whole list of clubs:

http://mams.rmit.edu.au/s7ighchh5bhy.pdf
Look below the subheading Creative and you will see RMIT Music. Then after much googling, I found the website for RMIT Music. Here it is: http://rmitmusic.freehostia.com/index.html
So there are several bands: Symphonic Orchestra, Concert Band, Stage Band, String Ensemble, RMIT Occasional Choral Society, The Gap Fillers, The Recorder Ensemble. Of course, students are allowed to make their own bands too.
After reading some materials, I have actually decided on which club I'd join: the RMIT String Ensemble! Players of all levels are welcome. I even heard a recording of their performance Can Can, and I think I can manage playing the songs. Besides, I wouldn't want to miss out on this.
Another thing I know, but just remembered, is that RMIT students are damn old. Well, okay they are at the appropriate age I guess, but... most of them are above 20. And next Feb, I would still be... 16. Pretty much a 5 years gap.
Next! Check out this guy:

And the following information I got from http://5starman.blogspot.com/2007/09/travis-fimmel.html (you can click the link if you wish to see more pictures of him):

I slept with Gucci last night!

Yeah but I couldn't sleep even though it was already past midnight. So I ended up disturbing Gucci who was fast asleep. I poked her... she sighed, then turned. I poked her again. She kicked me with her hind legs.
Aha. Kawaii <3>
It was a memorable time, so I decided to take pictures

But Gucci kept licking my face whenever I got close -_-

Her eyes look scary =0

And! Today, early in the morning, I went over to Susan's house to play the piano. I printed these the night before:

  1. Scarborough Fair
  2. Ave Maria - Caccini
  3. Nocturne op.9/2 - F.Chopin
  4. Caprice - Niccolo Paganini
I got them all from http://www.8notes.com/ (bless this website for giving me all the free music scores. Does anyone have other websites to share? Please go to the tagboard). I specifically put the music scores in order of difficulty. I only wanted to try the easy songs. Then, after printing, I actually read online lessons on music theory...!!! WOW! O_O When I am motivated, I sure go the extra mile.

So anyway, at Susan's house, I only learned Scarborough Fair. It was the easiest, and it is very simple. Left hand hit the chords right hand melody, all very basic and simple too. In the short one hour I was there, I could already play the song (quite) fluently. I improved since the last time I played the piano!!!

I forgot to mention, by the way, I will be taking piano lessons starting December. I'm actually leaving Indonesia mid-Feb, so I don't know about buying a piano, but I want to at least cover the basics first so that when I go to Melbourne, I can play songs by being self-taught at least.
Wow dilligent Vina. Something about me is that I'm always pumped up when trying out something new. For instance, driving. Remember? -_- Then after a while... well, the excitement fades.

Oh and if you're wondering about me abandoning the violin, that's not going to happen. Just now it was raining, the sky dark and grey. I took out Edgar (violin) and played. And hell. I have never played so marvelously in my whole life. Seriously. It was (almost) flawless, and I enjoyed myself so much, that I was sweating and even almost in tears from all the passion I was putting into the songs. Aaaah... I just love those days when my violin skills shoot up all of the sudden.

Oh and I almost forgot, let's go back when I was in Susan's. Yes my Dad picked me up, and when I was going to open the car door, I saw this white animal staring at me from behind the window and wagging her tail madly. Ah! It was Gucci!!! >w<

Nice pic:

We cut off her long hair, gave her a Puppy Cut. Now she looks like a little lamb:

I love it when Gucci picks me up =D Makes me happy. Oh and my parents have been getting along REALLY well with Gucci. "Everybody's Darling", my Dad said. Well, I didn't think they could resist her cuteness for long anyway.

Homestay Requirements

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Gucci was sleeping under my curtain xD I have no idea how she got there.

Oh and today, I handed in my homestay form! There is a box in the form called "special requirements". It was decided yesterday that Listy and I would be housemates. Yes, that is her in the above photo. And so we figured out the special requirements together. This is the final decision:

The cut off parts:

  • 15 minutes away from RMIT City Campus
  • a young child (female only) aged 6-12 years-old

I am somehow excited for my life in Australia, but of course it will be quite miserable for me to part with my parents...

I think Listy will be a good housemate for me because she can cook and clean. I can enslave her =D Wahahah just kidding. She reads my blog... >_>

By the way, for those concerned, I got A- for my wearable design project.
