Flying Pig Mangazine

Monday, January 26, 2009

Guess what I found when I was clearing up my old BBS books from my bookshelf! Yes, BBS students who were there during my era, it's Flying Pig!

Flying Pig is a manga magazine consisting of a compilation of mangas created by Bina Bangsa's very own students. We called ourselves the Comic Society. Yes, I said 'we'. As in I was in it too. So why is my name not in this manga list...........?

Don't get me wrong here... I was enthusiastic about making comics. Really, I was. The problem was... when I created the first page of my comic... well, it was without a certain light of inspiration. That's why I told Mr Ronal I refused to make any comics. He told me to do it at home but after some process which I am too lazy to type out, in the end, I didn't make a comic after all but I did have two pages of my drawings in this mangazine. At the end of my time in BBS, I got an F for my CCA.

Anyway enough of me. Let's get to the object of interest. Yeah so at the topmost picture, that's the cover. I drew the two girls at the bottom left =p

And I'm not going to take pictures of every single page, but here are my Top 3 Favourite manga pieces in Flying Pig! In order of appearance in the zine.

1. Yubikiri - Beatrice Tedja

Omg! Bete's manga looks so darn professional. People who see those pages would think it's made by a real mangaka. She's super talented, it's a known fact around BBS. Check out all those line effects! Superb! Her effects made this manga fast-paced and exciting. The storyline is also interesting so far. There's also a nice flow from one panel to the next.

2. Journey to the Best - Ken Darmadi

This manga made me lol. I mean... the amusement in seeing the characters in this manga depicting our very own BBS students. Iceman's drawings are also proportionally precise, which is always a good thing to see since many amateur drawers can never accomplish that. And on another note, I irk seeing Hendhy's tooth, and his odd...very odd...head... poor Wesley. It's not your fault that Hendhy wants you.

3. BBS - Hernawan Sugiri

First things first, that's quite an impressive drawing on the cover and I also love the picture of the BBS building. I mean... I didn't know Sugiri could draw o__o Not that I mean any offence, but since we resided on different floors and I don't really have a class with him or anything, I just never knew. This manga is also very funny. I wish I could see the continuation of it...

And that wraps up my Top 3 list! Here are some additional juice from Flying Pig... such as... my very own drawings gasp!

The first one, printed somewhere in the middle of the mangazine, was assigned by Mr Ronal. It was actually meant to be printed out as flyers before the publishing of Flying Pig, but it ended up there. Yeah, yeah, I know the words "Flying Pig" is too damn big and bold. I inked it all in very hurriedly in the last minute, even had to borrow Susan's rotring and all (thanks Suze!).

The second one was an artwork I created during class quite a long time ago. It wasn't meant to be for Flying Pig, but since Mr Ronal asked for another, I thought I'd hand that one in. I had to ink all the lines in though and didn't have time (or motivation) to screentone it or colour/ink in the background. It's printed on the very last and final page of the mangazine.

And last but not least, let me show you a peek of Mr Ronal's manga. He is my art teacher.

Whoo that's impressive isn't it? I really like that panel with the sign "The Blue Bell" Nice drawings, good proportions, shadings, preciness. This is why he is our art teacher :)

Oh, and, going out of topic a little here, but Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

Uniprep Graduation Jan '09

Saturday, January 24, 2009

Hello there! I have wonderful news!

Today I had my final two exams in the afternoon and at night, I had my Graduation! Here are some lovely pictures:

My bro and I at the graduation hall:

Alyssa, Me, Listy:

Us again:

My brother and his graduation certificate:
Mine:

And this was the really unexpected part. There was a prize-giving ceremony where top scorers of each streams receive a distinction certificate. So there was Science, Commerce, and when the turn came for Arts & Design (to make this clear, "Arts" and "Design" are two different streams but the classes are mostly joined together), the MC announced that it was "the brother and sister duo, Austen Kosasih and Vina Kosasih!".
O_O wow I was surprised. Didn't expect that. I didn't even know Arts and Designs were going to be separated since Arts only had 3 students. But it was super cool, and I was really happy. I mean... when was the last time I ever received a certificate for being top in class???? Not since... years ago back in primary school I think. My BBS times were hopeless except maybe for Geography and English. So yeah! It felt great to receive that cert. Twas an honour ^_^
The two of us receiving the cert together:

The cert came with another rather heavy wrapped object. Here's my cert:

And here's the little mysterious gift!

Let's open it shall we...

And oh! It's a book! On design! Hahaha... It's sweet that whoever bought this actually thought that the receiver would be taking design in the future.
And inside the book, this is written on the first page:

"Many congratulations and all the best in the future -Simon"
Aww this made me really happy. It's not just some book now, it's something to commemorate an achievement, a phase in my education.

And since I got a book on design, I thought my bro would get one on music! But instead, ...

Lol. Weird. Oh ah you can see my foot there oops =x
Here's another package from Uniprep that every student receives:

It's a laptop bag! Hehe. I've been thinking of buying one for a while now and since I have this one, I guess I won't go buying another after all :)
Okay that's all the pictures I have. You can check out my facebook some time in the future when Didi starts uploading the photos into FB. Daym FB is great.
Anyway...
I can't believe I have actually completed my foundation studies... in almost exactly one month, I'll be entering university... Wow it seems so darn fast. I remember it wasn't long when I just switched my blog name from '-The Ordinary Girl In High School-' to '-The Ordinary Girl In College-'. Haha no I don't think all of you have seen my blog name but yeah it exist and it's down right laaame xD but whatever. Now I'll be attending university! University! Gosh! Time flies so fast. I feel like I'm somewhat reluctant to leave this 'youth'.

Like Simon said in his speech, I still remember the first day of Uniprep. It was in that blue room, room 3, 4, 5. And days in Uniprep were spent mostly in Room 13 for Arts and Design students. We loved to skip English lectures, and the girls loved skipping CS lectures. We were always late by minimum half an hour for every CS Lab time. And when we have a 5-minute break between classes, it always end up extended into 20 minutes.

Ms Sherly liked to name the boys Chabie. We loved to tease Tin. And also Mr Kaca Mata hohoho. Mr Nigel loved to play hangman and make us guess the word he wanted. He also translated them into Indonesian such as "dimana pantat = whereas". Mr John was always blabbering on about sue-ing somebody in our class haha. Mr Paul is most remembered for our singing sessions with him and Waltzing Matilda. Ms Helen smiles at us a lot and is very nice even though we skip (or half-skip) her lessons a lot. Sorry Miss! Ma'am Rani is really kind and we love to tease her a bit about her cliched phrases of "this is interesting, but...". And then there's Mr Fredro, Petrick's love, and AA, the teacher we overload with our questions when doing lab exercises =p...
I feel it's a bit too fast. There was only a few hour's gap between final exam and graduation. It didn't hit me that we all would part until the final moments.
Guys, I had a great time. You all are fun and good people. Thank you for the birthday surprises, thank you for making my time in Uniprep short but sweet ;)

Wish you all success in the future!

-Vina

FUCKING PIECE OF FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....
.....
....
.....
.......
.....

I know it has been ages since I put swear words into my blog post in capital letters. BUT I'M SO EFFING PISSED RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU KNOW WHY I'M PISSED?????

today I had my very first final exam - Design. Like... the subject with the most contributing points for my final GPA.......

and you know what...

I'm so so so screwed. Yes. Screwed. Absolutely screwed.

I had 10 MCQ questions which I was completely unsure of except for maybe a couple. They total up to 10 marks, and I have 2 essays to write, each 20 marks. And each essay has to be at least 2 pages long. FYI BBS students who skips lines for essays, that's not something we do here.

This is the first essay question:

You have learned on many different designers from all design fields throughout this course. Pick one from the 20th century and another contemporary designer and compare the two designers in terms of the effect of cultures, issues, technology and materials.

Well I can't remember the exact wording. It was more complex than mine and this I have already simplified. I picked Ettore Sottsass (which I spelt wrongly as Sotsass) and John Galliano. And... I didn't really dwell on the issues and culture and those stuff because I had no idea how to answer that... so... I'm dead. Huh. Dead... Huhuh...

The 2nd essay question:

Designers work together with developing communities to establish (cannot remember anymore)... Explain how designers can foster independence and growth by referring to at least 3 of the examples below:

- re[frame] Mill
(something blablabla cannot remember. Point is tons of foundations and groups and those shits that I have never in my life ever heard of and = screw you paper makers)

This.is.the.worst.question.I've.ever.had.in.my.whole.entire.lifetime. Wtf wtf wtf. fuck fuck fuck.

I swear I get less than 10 points for this essay. And ...sigh...you know what... so depressed right now... I'm gonna go to a corner and cry. Cya.

Bug Reproduction

Sunday, January 18, 2009

It was yesterday morning when my brother hopped into my room to bug me as usual. And then, as he laid on my bed, he noticed something quite large stuck on my window... o___o

It was a bug! And it had this long trail of oval things behind it gasp! My brother called me to see it, and it was quite... well, see for yourself...

Laying the 6th egg:

The 6th egg is out!!
Now laying the 7th egg...

Aaand the 7th egg!

Okay yeah I know it's gross. When I watched it reproduce it felt gross to me too. But somehow... it was fascinating........ O___o
So me and my brother just sat beside my window and watched the bug lay its eggs in awe and amazement. Do you want to see it too?? Here I took a short video, but I didn't get to get to the part where the eggs comes out because it took too long..

Remember the previous post where you all saw the geckos mating...? And now you guys see this bug laying her eggs...? They are all in front of my bedroom... I wonder why there have been so much sexual acitivity there. Mating season? O_o Or does my room release some sort of pheromone? Don't know.

However, aside from the joy of new life, something else happened that noon. I fell when I was ice-skating -_-

In the previous post again, there were pictures of my cutter-wounded finger. Now it's my knee. Actually, I don't know how I fell. I don't think I bumped into anybody, and I don't think there was anyone who zoomed past me in superspeed and caused me imbalance either. So I guess I was just standing there skating...and then fell... ... ...

Anyway, I'm prone to injury and I already know that so yeah whatever -_-
And I have to study for my exams it's tomorrow OMG!!! O____O I am so so so so screwed. Wish me luck!

Uniprep Design Exhibition 2009

Saturday, January 17, 2009

What a great way to start this new post!

So today, design students held an exhibition showing off all our work since the start of Uniprep. Yesterday, we prepared the design studio, moving chairs, clearing cabinets, setting up things, etc.

Listy and I:

Oh and that girl also did something to me that day, which was cut my finger with a brand new cutter.
Well, actually, she was just sitting next to me and holding the cutter up. I was the one who accidentally swung my hands and my fingers sliced itself. It was a pretty deep cut too :( Seconds after that happened, Listy and I just stared at my finger, shocked. We waited until we saw blood ooze out of the cut, then we started to panick -_-
Albert got me a band aid from Lita's office, but there was no Betadine... it was missing. So in the end I just immersed my finger in a cup of drinking water that Listy got for me, and when the wound was clean, I put on the band aid.
When I reached home, I took it off, put on Betadine, and changed into a new one:

This afternoon, it fell off when I was washing my hands so again, I changed -_-:

Yes, I do like shocking colours.
So anyway! Back to the topic of the exhibition.
Lamp Designs

Mine is the one hanging on the wall. From the left, is Listy, Petrick (which we can't see in this photo), Alyssa, Martin, Livia, Albert, Kevin.
Martin's is the brightest. He used a 60watt lamp o___O. Mine was only 25... since the guy at the lamp shop told me that it would melt my lamp if it's too high.
Wearable design
Wearable is our 3rd project... I forgot to mention that Lamp is our final project.

From the left: Petrick, Livia, Kevin, Listy, Alyssa, Martin, Albert, Me
Everyone created a design based on the emotion of Love, except for me whose design represented Anger, and Petrick and Livia, Sorrow.
Imaginary Space
This was our 2nd project.

Eh yep sorry. No individual photos. Hehe well I do have them, but I'm so lazy to upload them into the blog because why? Blogger only allows 5 photo uploads at a time. Damn. What a pain! And it is also so hard to organize the photos after we've uploaded them since the text box is too small. Do something about this, Blogger!!!

Graphic Design

This was our very very first project. Well, the one at the bottom is the very first one I guess, but it's not an official graded project.

If you guys want to see the pictures clearly or see other individual shots of the projects, simply click this link, it's my facebook photo album =3
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=167175&l=e699b&id=1498661097
Oh and look what I found sticking on my balcony wall one night!

It is love... indeed...

Foolscap Nostalgia

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

(Tried clicking the pictures to enlarge it but they aren't clickable? Blame blogger. However, I do have one solution. Simply right click on the picture, Properties, and look at the Address (URL). Copy that address by simply highlighting, and Ctrl+C. Then go to a new window and paste using Ctrl +V on the address bar. Now you can see the picture!)

Hello again!

This blog post is actually one I've been meaning to post on Monday night but since I've been busy with my lamp design, I've only managed to get it done now ^_^"

So it was just one ordinary night when I, for some odd reason, took out my foolscap collection. Back in BBS, I always drew on my foolscap and wrote all sorts of things on it. Fortunately, I kept some of them in one big blue folder =D

I spend quite a few hours looking at all of them and taking pictures of them, let me share it with you all =D

(Foolscap covers are not in any order since I'm lazy to)

Apparently I was still in Year 8 Caesar... which means that's 4 years ago o___O... I was still 13 years old:

Next up! Is one back from Year 9, a.k.a 3 years ago, 14 years old.

Susan and I were crazy about Lovely Complex manga >_> Therefore the LC Police sign. I remember we drew LC Police versions of each other in each other's notebook. Risa Koizumi is the main character and we love that stupid expression on her.
I love the monotone panda. The magnet is so cute. I don't know where we got the idea of monotone pandas. Does such thing exist??
The poring with the word Baby below it is obviously drawn by Ratna =p... Her poring is trademarked. Something about it just screams "Ratna drew this!" I think it's the eyes? O_o Since I never see Poring drawn like this: ^w^... I think?

Another one when I was in Year 9 Carnegie...

Another Year 9 Carnegie >_> whew I suppose this was when I started collecting foolscaps?

Lol I remember this... Shaun was always very perverted and everthing. And Susan and I spent out days Mikan/Hotaru-ing (from Alice Academy). =w= See that big drawing in the middle? The one on the left is me and the right is Susan. It was one fateful day when she stabbed me with a compass... or a pen was it? I was asking her to feel my forehead coz it felt warm, and she stabbed me instead T__T
Celine gave the pink colour to the drawing on the top left =p Aaah so this was the time of Dragon Zakura.

No class written on this one =s

But I'm pretty sure it's the Shania days if you get my gist =w=... Only some people know. And it's also the days when I was super madly fangirl-ish over Kamenashi Kazuya. Whoo! The duck, Susan used to say!
...Oh and let's not forget the Maths stuff.
Wow and here we are at Pre-U Sun Tzu. My last year at BBS. It was only a few months ago TvT... nostalgia nostalgia. I love the drawing of the princess!

Hmm I think I messed up these pictures. 'Cause I don't think I was failing Physics during Pre-U.... ^^" I only failed it at the start of Sec 1. Eh, sorry for the mislocated photos =p I can't remember which ones go where.
The comic strip in the middle is drawn by Susan, who got frustrated by me who was always spacing out. She drew me with glasses!! This must be a long time ago!

I don't have the cover for this, oddly O_o

Uhh... I don't know when this one is either. But I'm sure it was when I was seated next to Bella since I drew Tinkerbell eyes at the top right. Which means I must have been 15 years old.
Yes, yes, I was a mad Suzuki Emi fan -_- It was all because Susan lent me this J-Drama called something Gyaru, I can't remember. It's about a Para Para group called Angel Hearts therefore my class name on the foolscap.
Huhuhu no offence to Miss Lanny, she is my fave teacher from BBS. But at this moment in time... I must have rather disliked her lol, seeing all the comments about "Ms Lany mo bunuh kt ya" and "Gw pgn ke toilet tp kluarnya susah -____-"
Oh and there is the address for Gadis. Which means this was that crazy moment in time when I could have made covergirl for that magazine but didn't cause I didn't check my mail and so couldn't make it for the auditions =w=... Ratna was there with me when we got the surprising phone call from Gadis. And we screamed and swore at TA beside the tea shop as I remember it.

Lol. Pre-U Sun Tzu. Me (Cucu-chan/Jie/Musume), Susan (Okaa-san/Musume), Irene (Ojii-san/Okaa-san), and Jo-c (Cucu-chan/Mei/Musume) were damn tight. We were "family"...
Starting from the top of the tree, Irene is the grandpa. Yes, I said PA. Joc and I call her Ojii-san. Susan was me and Joc's mom and we call her Okaa-san. Joc was my little sister and I call her Mei whereas she calls me Jie. Oh but the twist is that I was actually adopted by Susan and my real mother is Ratna who abandoned me O____o gasp.
We were so tight, in fact, that we had our own complete secret language! Gasp! Look at that bunch!!! They are all words!

Ahhh nostalgia nostalgia. That's all the pictures for now. I actually have some more from my other file but they're not exactly foolscap papers rather drawings and images. But I'm tired of compiling all the photos together and all that -_- I still haven't done my portfolio and concept card. My finals are next week!!! Omg!!! Hopefully I can blog about all the design projects I made throughout my whole 9-months course in Uniprep. Let's see if I have time for it. =p I kinda need to study... Hehe. We'll see.
Laters!
