Amnesia

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Chu came over to my apartment just now and we just chilled, like we always do. And we somehow came across the topic of this game called 'Trace Memory'.

She told me about how she had a sleepover at my house last time and we played this game together. I was stuck at the bridge, and we both figured out at last how to get over that place. She liked the game enough to go home and download it.

Sounds convincing doesn't it, that she and I were there, playing this game together.

But what was truly weird, was, I did not recall any of it.

I remember chu staying over at my place. But I don't remember ever playing this game. Not once! I watched the trailers, the gameplay and videos just now, I also read the game plot, but none of them sounded familiar to me.

Chu was 1000% sure that I've played the game. Because I was the one who introduced it to her, and we played it together. But me... I don't recall a thing. Which is weird... of course you will remember a game that you've played before, especially after seeing the screenshots and videos. But I didn't. o__o not. at. all.

Wow... I have amnesia.

I don't think you recall, but I had a blog post few months ago where I said I had a very small seizure. And apparently, seizures may cause amnesia. I might be just making extreme conclusions, but seriously I do not recall that game - at all! And that makes no sense to me because I remember all the games I've played. They're not easy to forget when you've spent hours on it.

Freaky.
On a lighter note, Chu said this is just like in the movies. One day I'll be one of those heroines who have amnesia and wake up on the hospital bed to a striking young man who is supposedly my lover and I have no memory of him. Haaah xD

No btw, I don't want that to happen. Seizures are freaking scary and once (even if it's a small one), is enough. No more!!!

Luka Cosplay
* Second batch of cosplay photos
* How to make your own Magnet Headphones - tutorial

Hey guys!

Tadaaa!!! Finally I cosplayed!!!
Cosplaying has been a childhood dream of mine. Well not really childhood, but I've been wanting to do it since... since I saw Arisa Mizuhara's photos o_o You can google her. And she really inspired me into cosplaying.

Until now, the one character I really want to cosplay is still songstress Yuna!!! >_<>

At first, I was just on Facebook and I saw this cute Which Vocaloid Are You quiz taken by Sherly (lol) and my result was Luka Megurine. So I googled her since I didn't even know what the heck Vocaloid was. o_O And I thought she was pretty interesting! Then I saw some good cosplay pictures of her and I thought hey, this isn't too hard! So it was decided...

After around 5 days of buying and then receiving the wig (my very first wig! I was so happy), I handcrafted the headphones (tutorial in the previous post) in two days. And two days later, Juen came to my apartment and we had the official photoshoot!

My photographer and I ^^:

Photography and editing: Juen
Dress: Listy's (thank u ^^)
Accessories and headphones: me
Wig styling & make-up: me

Well those are the more favourite-d photos. I don't really like the last one but many people do so... maybe it's good... not sure. Hahahaha.

After the photoshoot Juen and I went out grabbed some take-away bento and had our group meeting. The weather was so good out! And we both felt real happy because 1.my dream of cosplaying came true 2.Juen's dream of taking cosplay photographs came true. Juen prefers photography over modelling, opposite of me. Hahhaha. And we both talked about how in a single cosplay we gain experience on crafting accessories, wigs, photo editing, modelling, photography etc. And how someone should set up a cosplay school and I would gladly join. Hhahaha. Life would be awesome!

My pink wig is looking lonely up there on top of my cabinet. I want to cosplay again soon if possible! What characters have pink hair and a simple costume? I can only think of

  • Mayura from Matantei Loki Ragnarok
  • Serah Farron from Final Fantasy 13

...and that's it. I need some otaku input here -_- !! Suggestions pleaseeee.

Making of Magnet Headphones

Sunday, April 25, 2010

My Finished Cosplay photos
*Batch #1
*Batch #2

This weekend, I am pretty free ^^ compared to the last few weeks of hell. So I decided to (finally) make the magnet headphone for my Luka Megurine cosplay! Now if you recall, I posted this picture before. This is how the headphones are supposed to look like:

There are actually a whole lot of versions, just depends on how you like it. At first, I wanted to just use an existing headphone and modify it. But the ones I got from my bro were too thick, and had these cables which he told me not to cut off. So I decided to just make the headphones from scratch.

Materials used:

  1. used headband
  2. styrofoam block
  3. black cards
  4. blue/green card
  5. wires
  6. gouache
  7. acrylic paint
  8. wood glue
  9. double tape
  10. lace sticker
  11. normal paper glue
  12. giant scissors
  13. cutter
  14. scalpel
  15. cutting mat
  16. and any other tools

I started with cutting out the basic round shape from this gigantic styrofoam block. Honestly don't ask how I did it. It was as thick as my A-maths book from high school. My cutter died in the process, and I cut myself twice + bruises from using the metallic ruler to saw (yes, frikin SAW) the styrofoam. It wasn't a very pretty process. I recommend just buying a thin styrofoam board (feels idiotic for not doing exactly that).

Next I cut some wires and just pierce them through the styrofoam block. Be careful not to let the wire go out.

Next I took my used headband (which I didn't really like anyway) and pasted double tape all over the top. Then I stuck black card over it and folded it at the bottom. Mine's pretty rough. It's actually better to use fabric but since I couldn't be bothered, yeah.

Oh and don't cover the bottom, since you need that part to keep the headband stuck to your hair (wig). Also keep that in mind when you buy a headband, don't buy one that's smooth at the bottom.

I took even more wires and made the pink intertwine thingy. Mine's not neat at all... Hahhaa. Wires are annoying. I painted them pink using gouache.

Then I cut out 4 round circles on black card and pasted them on the styrofoam. I also painted the sides black using lovely acrylic. The wire for the microphone was also painted black, and I covered the mic with black paper. Black black black.

Next is the fun (but hell) part. I printed out the butterfly template from Fenlaf from deviantart. Bless him. Anyway I printed it on tracing paper, then stuck the tracing paper to a black a4 paper. I just used a scalpel and traced everything to cut out the black outline for the wings. You can do it whichever method you want really.

When one is done, just use it as the template for the other wings since the tracing paper is too flimsy.

A lot of time n backbreaking focus brings you: 4 butterfly wings =)

Then all you have to do is stick one wing on either side of the blue card. Make sure the blue card you buy has colour on both sides or it will make your life more complicated. Initially I wanted to use coloured transparencies but couldn't find them anywhere in Melbourne (fail).

Now you have the pretty wings, stick it to the styrofoam using wood glue (you can use pva or whatever - your choice, just don't use normal paper glue).

Tadaaa. Oh and I also added some blue to the mic, and a black circle above it. Your preference.

Next you have to be careful with this step. Stick the wings to the headband. Quadruple check the angle and height of the wings you want. Nothing's worse than going this far and then realising the speakers don't align with your ears and it's already permanently stuck. Crucial, crucial.

Glue everything with wood glue.

And now to the detailing. I cut out a blue ring and pasted it on the speakers.

Next I printed out the speaker template from sesshy-kun from deviantart. Yay everything's in the internet! ^^ Printed on tracing paper again, for the opaque effect. Up to you, really. This is just my preference. I used double tape to stick the pattern on.

Lastly, I cut out this adhesive lace I just bought, and stuck it on the headband!

DONE~~

Vinaloid!

I wanted to stick some rhinestones on the wings but since I couldn't find them, meh.

Cosplay photoshoot is on Monday =) Juen is helping me take some indoor shots. Yaaay~

That's a present for Lydia which I just wrapped up. Rand0mz.

A photo of my room last night after completing the headphone:

Can you see the headphones? =)

It was sickeningly messy. Couldn't walk without having some sort of paper getting stuck to the bottom of my foot =_=

I cleaned everything up today! My beautiful room is back!!! ^^

Enjoy your weekend guys~

expressing

Monday, April 19, 2010

*Ponder...ponder...*

Okay I admit, I don't know what to blog about. But I really feel the urge for expression. And I don't know why instead of expressing through my poster that's due in less than 2 days, I instead write a blog post. I guess I'm just more verbal than visual -instant sad face-. On a random note, I am slightly happy that both of those words start with a V, just like my name.

In fact, I have recently felt that my name is pretty nice. There is a unity between my first and last name: Vina Kosasih. VK. I like it. Thanks mom and dad for the nice name, I will no longer complain to you about giving me a better name. I can't imagine myself being called... Elizabeth Kosasih (well whoa that actually wasn't that bad to be honest), Renee Kosasih (hey that's not bad either), Angelica Kosasih (sounds too much like my bro's name), Laurence Kosasih (wait is this a girl's name?), Kylie Kosasih, Winnie Kosasih, Lydia Kosasih, Mandy Kosasih, Jessica Kosasih, Cheryl Kosasih, or whatever.

What to blog about .... hmmm ...

Oh I had a very nice conversation with Chu the other day. We chatted for 3 hours ++ non-stop and didn't even notice. It was that good of a flow. Our topics ranged from all the petty stuffs to deeper arguments about design, psychology, and the interests of our generation. Perhaps our intellect is almost matched, though maybe not, she may not be so happy to have an intellect matching that of humble ol' me (lol). Yes, I used 'lol' right after that sentence. Just proves how intellectual I am. She did say we are similar though, so I can assume that was what she meant right?

Unimportant things like these gush out of my mouth whenever I start rambling. Sorry.

Back to what I was actually going to say, our conversation was great. And at one point we talked about how cool it would be if we were old grannies sitting on our patios (if they were to still exist in 70 years time), sipping tea or whatever shit they drink in that era, and saying to each other 'oh my dear friend, we grew up together!'. Or something along those granny lines.

I mean - we grew up together. I didn't realise that simple fact - that you never grow up alone, but you grow up together along with other people who are involved in your life. I grew up with so many people. I grew up with Chu, Susan, Ratna, Ken, Sammy, Angelita, Irene, Josie, Listy, Petrick, Martin, Allison, Angela, Caroline, Bella, Daryl, Angelina, Janet, Cathy, Recca, Nattanich, Sophia, Celine, and many other people I simply can't list them all.

Am I the only weird one who thinks it's amazing we grew up together? Yes? For instance I'll be telling my child in the future "Oh this is aunt Angelita, we grew up together. I always go to her and rant about guy stuff, I honestly don't know how she puts up with it, but I sure never let that bother me. She's such a dear ~"

None of us know where life would take us , and sometimes it gets really hard to keep in touch with even my closest friends. It would be a lie to say distance does not keep us apart, which is really kind of sad. We might have msn, skype, whatever, things just aren't like how it was. We don't see each other, we don't have lunch together or skip classes together. We don't go to TA after school and ice-skate, we don't go to Happy Puppy and karaoke like mad.

Aaah typing this really makes me nostalgic~ High school sure was a good memory. I think back on all the shit I went through, all the fighting and the tears, but now I can only see them as happy memories, it's funny. Life can be such a mystery when everything is happening but you don't notice them until you look back and you realise it has all been amazing, every second of it.

Lol I feel rather inspired now, maybe I can start doing my poster design? Hahahha. Tonight when I pray I'll be sure to thank God for giving me this gift called life.

I've been thinking a lot these days, and just now I saw a blog of an old friend of mine. I don't keep in touch with her anymore, but I think she has changed a lot. She has become way more mature than before and her blog really touched me at some posts. Anyway, she probably doesn't read this, but I wish her well :)

It seems everyone is growing up. We will go through pain and somehow make it out alive.

Watching telly drinking wine~ ....wine?

Monday, April 12, 2010

Hi guys, I'm actually pretty free right now and pretty much bored so I decided hey I should blog. The above picture is of my pretty crap packaging for Japanese rice.

These days, I have been looking a lot at the sky, since I figured out the greatest method to work my sliding curtain thing. I used to just keep them shut but now they're always open except at night. So from the moment I wake, till the moment I sleep~

Sunrise:

Sunset:

Well the sunset probably isn't too amazing, but it was drizzling at that moment! The camera couldn't capture it since it was too soft. Imagine soft drizzling and the warm glow of orange hues from the setting sun. ;)

I was just sitting there with my laptop, playing a bunch of blues music. Watching the clouds drift. I never knew clouds drift as at that speed o_o I wish I had a glass of wine to celebrate the view, but you know, I can't buy it and Listy wouldn't buy it for me either =_="

The weather here in Melbourne is starting to get chilly. Auttumn is coming. I don't know how I should feel about that, since cold weather means I will start eating a whole damn lot (and yes, it has already begun).

Aside from that, life has been blissful and peaceful :) I've been feeling happy and calm.

This happened to my apartment the other day - fire! :

Wig!

Monday, April 5, 2010

Look at this, another blog post! And it hasn't been long at all since the previous one. I promise to make this one less serious :D

I'm currently having a strong urge to go cosplay. Look at that picture up there! So beautiful isn't it...! I want to buy myself a pink wig too, since I can have two alternative cosplay characters, that is: Luka Megurine (Vocaloid) and Mayura (Matantei Loki Ragnarok). Their costumes aren't too complicated either, which is good.

I did go to a wig shop the other day and I tried out several wigs. They were blonde almost white, like Lady Gaga's hair colour. But they looked so horrible on me!! I looked like a witch. The fringe was weird, and hair flared to the sides. I guess it might be because the wig was new, just came out of the box. At least, that's what the shopkeeper told me.

But I'm looking at some wigs right now on eBay... never used eBay before. But it sure is convenient compared to scouting those wig shops in the city with the scary shopkeepers... I'm currently considering this item. It will be around $44, which is... not too bad. Since I have been saving a lot of money by cooking and eating at home. But recently, I spilled water in my bag again!!! Arghh! I did the exact same thing last year and destroyed my phone and iPod. Now my iPhone is damaged... the functions work fine, but the screen brightness cannot be adjusted. The lights are ruined, I reckon. I can barely see anything on the screen.

I don't know how much it will cost to fix that since I am too damn lazy to call the guy up and ask. If my Dad were here he would help me get this done... hahaha. Oh those happy days when you just sit at home and everything is done for you... tsktsk.

Can someone buy this for me as an Easter present? :)

Your Dreams When You're Still 17

Saturday, April 3, 2010

That's how I look like right now. I can almost swear I look a bit different. Smudged eye make-up?

You know I have been quite busy recently, even though it is Easter holiday right now, I have much to do. And I have been thinking a lot, about the future, etc. A few moments ago I was washing dishes, chatting with Listy as usual and I said "Damn this course, I don't even have a clear future, right now I'm not even sure what in the world I am studying and how this is useful. I'd take business where I know I'd actually have a more stable career."

Taking design course is really not about what you love doing anymore... It's about establishing a career. I don't know if that sentence even makes sense. I seem to have that habit of typing a wise-sounding sentence but have no idea what it means and when you decipher it, it really is just a stupid statement. So forgive me. :)

What I was really going at is how, after saying that (the quote in first paragraph) to Listy, I realised that I am still 17 years old. That number shocks me sometimes, I can't believe I'm still so bloody young! It doesn't seem to be that way, I don't feel like I'm one of those seventeen year old girls going out to the beach with her group of friends in the car drinking Big M then jumping off a cliff into the sea watching the sunset... okay, I was directly translating the Big M commercial there. But it's true! Is that how teenagers are supposed to be? Free? They seem so rid of any worries, like the world belongs to them.

Yes I will hit my head and remind myself it is only a commercial and of course they are trying to sell that lifestyle.

Oh man, remember those old days when your life revolves around nothing but your homework, friends, and boys. I mean, it's not much different yet as of right now, but I saw my old photos with my friends, and I couldn't help but feel warm and tingly inside. What sweet memories! We were all one, together, and now we are scattered all over the globe, trying to build our career. School is such a wonderful place, and now I understand why it is so important to send kids to a good school - it is the foundation of a child, the environment, people, study methods directly affect a child.

Boy I'm glad I went to Bina Bangsa School. Even though I still fail to comprehend the motive behind "Girls should always tie their hair and cannot leave any strand hanging out. Boys' hair must be short and cannot go below the top of the ear. Everyone must have black hair."

I mean... once you get out of school, who cares if you dye your hair...? In uni and in the workplace there are people who have coloured hair and it doesn't matter.

I guess Bina Bangsa was making sure the 'products' of their school graduates are prim, proper, studious. Typical Singaporean school...

Few days ago, I read a very good manga called Cat Street. And there was this quote I really liked:

"Happiness that you obtain from others is very unstable.
If you can't capture happiness yourself, no one else will come and grab it for you"

That's true. Happiness we receive from friends and lovers can be destroyed so easily. If we depend on that happiness, we will truly be fragile. Every night I pray so the people around me can find happiness. But true happiness can be obtained from within him/herself, as I understand after reading that quote. So may everyone live without any regrets, and obtain happiness that is from oneself.

Anyway, I should really get back to my project now. And I'm also very hungry. But before I go, I recently had this desire to live in Japan. I think it's been there since I was a child but my friends around me are suddenly raving about it... and I want to go too! I want to try living there for a few months with friends. I think it would be like a dream come true. I'm aiming for that now, but there are many other obstacles along the way. I need to get my studies done here first, and I don't even know where to establish a career. It's all very confusing to me but may we all stay strong... Ganbatte!
