two faced

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Hey guys! Two days ago was a public holiday so Juen and I went out to the botanical garden for a photoshoot! We had two shoots in mind, a natural one, and an 'unnatural' one.

Shoot 1:

Yes, this pose is inspired by America's Next Top Model cycle 14 shadow photoshoot

I took this one myself. lol. Listy says it's my 'typical' photo face

We didn't get that many shots for the first photoshoot. I found it hard to be natural... no kidding. Juen kept saying "you look good in real life but once it gets shot, you look blank!" So I tried my best and the results are okay I guess, but nothing exceptional personally.

Shoot 2:

I really adore the way the light illuminates the stray strands of hair and my eyelashes!

Oooobviously if you know me, I love the second shoot! It's not something I've done before. I guess it's a bit more professional and fashionable? I was inspired by Kenzo's 1983 campaign:

But mine pales in comparison. lol. I absolutely love Kenzo's fashion campaigns. The graphic style applied is so inspiring.

Let me explain the clothes and make-up in this shot. (Since the natural one is pretty straightforward)

Clothes:
  • Zara dark blue dress
  • Copper necklace with key-shaped pendant
  • Two scarves: one pink worn inside, another bigger one wrapped outside (Juen's)

Hair and make-up:

  • Hair is backcombed and swept slightly sideways in most shots. But this is random because I kept throwing my hair around and messing it up.
  • Pat on MAC concealer on lips because I didn't have a true nude lippie :( should really get one soon
  • Swept purple eyeshadow from MAC (present from Susan :)) over eyelids and a little under the eyes. Unfortunately we can hardly see the purple in the shots at all...
  • And contouring the face with bronzer and orangey blush. Foundation and concealer, I don't need to talk about how I applied that. Concealer is the same one from MAC, my shade is NC-20, and the foundation is a very sheer compact powder foundation from KOSE (Korean) called Sonia Two Way Foundation Case. I have liquid foundation but I hate using it because it cracks on my dry skin even after prior moisturizing...
  • Dark brown eyeliner from CEZANNE (Japanese brand). no cat-eye, just very little lining for a bit more definition. This eyeliner doesn't smudge on me so I love it.
  • Black mascara, K-Palette 'Real Lasting Volume' - I love this K-Palette brand. It's a Japanese drugstore brand, extremely cheap and fabulous products. Great quality~ Buy their Real Lasting Eyeliner as well if you plan to.
  • And the eyebrows, the highlight of my whole look! For eyebrows personally I think you can use anything at all, in this case I used my brown eyeliner as well. Then to make it a bit textured, I used the sponge end of my other Estee Lauder eyeliner. Or... you could use your fingers but that probably won't work as well. Some of the make-up will stick to your finger.

The bold brows were a runway trend. I'm not sure if they still are, I'm not much of an avid trend-follower (actually, not at all). I seem to always execute a trend at the wrong time :p whatever~ Bold brows inspiration:

Can you see how sexy those brows are? Especially the 3rd picture...she looks handsome and stunning! Like Keira Knightley... oh yeah she has bold brows too.

But maybe next time I will try those nude pale brows!

I'm not so sure if that would suit me though. Hahahhaha. But trying doesn't hurt. Even Mona Lisa sported it!

And here are some post-shoot photos.

Big thank you my photographer Juen!! :)
Hope to do this again with you some other time~

Hello my dearlings!

A photo of me looking pretty scary, with an editing method I randomly picked up on to make the skin look slightly metallic (but not overly shiny). Yes it is me without (too much) make-up! In fact I haven't worn liquid eyeliner in a long time. While it was my favourite tool of the trade, it is now replaced by eyeshadows. I cannot stress the amazingness of eyeshadows. An essential every girl needs is a palette of brown eyeshadow in a minimum of three different shades. My reliable palette is Dior's Diorissime Make-Up Clutch No.002 - Seduction Drama. But I must say, I need a more pigmented dark brown.

Right, enough of cosmetics ranting.

Next week will be my last week of university (2nd year). I know, wow. Time just... leaped. But I'm very happy with what I've achieved so far. I got a High Distinction for my identity and stationery set project and that really shocked me because I expected a Credit or Distinction. Well of course I'm not going to complain, I'm extremely happy! But not satisfied. Because personally, I think I still could have pushed that solution so much more. Maybe.

But oh I thank thee my beloved generous tutor! May thou set thine liberal eyes on my following humble project and bestow upon it a graceful score like before.

One last thing before I shoot and resume the construction of my advertising elective final folio,

Happy Birthday Juen!!!

Happy 22nd! What a great age, obviously, it is celebrated here in my blog. Hahhahaa. You will have a wonderful year. Stay positive, work hard, but don't strain yourself. Remember that I pray for your happiness and health every night (no kidding)! Happy Birthday! =D

Alright... now back to project. I shall be very occupied in the next two weeks.
One last thing: my lavenders have yet to arrive :( Damn you, quick!!! The worst thing that can happen is they arrive right on the day I'm going back to Jakarta (which is very soon) =.= wth. Y'know, I completely forgot about that when I ordered those flowers. The thought of leaving 200 stems of heaven here in Melbourne for 4 months and coming back to see them scentless, is unbearable.

Too many to choose from

I have to confess something - I have an obsession for beauty products. No I didn't count, but it must total up to approximately 40. And they're all scattered all over my room. I really should start throwing old ones out but I'm the kind of person who finds it real hard to throw anything (that's why my room is so full of rubbish).

Currently I own 7 bottles of lotions and I can't say I use them all. And yet I keep buying new ones! Something about the packaging of these lotions, and their scent, their 'new-ness' draws me to them and I can't help but fall into the trap of purchasing it.

I bought Covergirl's TRUCONCEAL concealer the other day and it must have been the worst product I've ever used. It completely caked my face and made me look like I had rotting skin all over. Fortunately it was a cheap $10 buy, so the next thing I did I went over to the MAC shop on Chapel St and got me another bottle of concealer for $30. And it still flaked. Maybe that means I need a better moisturizer below it. Should I buy another moisturizer? What will I do with my two old ones? And how about these concealers, what do I do with them?

See, that's a problem.

There are way too many beauty products in this world and few that work. We consumers end up buying and buying then wasting all that money on products that make you look better without make-up.

Luckily, there are testers for those products. Oh yes I know how bacteria-infested those are, but what's better, risking your skin for one day or wasting a whole lot of cash, and risking your skin/appearance?

On another note, testing concealers and foundations on the back of your hands does not work (the skin colour is not even the same with the face). Foundations should be tested on your jawline, while concealers must be tested under the eyes (if you're planning on undereye coverage). Lipsticks should be tested on the tip of your fingers. The only product that should be tested on the back of your hand is probably eye shadow. But correct me if I'm wrong.

Getting good make-up outcome also depends not only on the product itself but also the way you apply it and the little layers and details that go into creating that final piece. Hell, it's more complicated that it seems.

But why do we females bother with so much products anyway? What happened to all-natural skin? Well, our natural skin includes blemishes, uneven skin tone, oiliness/dryness, wrinkles, and for me, my biggest enemy - dark under-eye circles and eyebags.

To be honest, if I didn't have those last two, I wouldn't even have that many make-up. They are a pain... I'd surgically remove them. No, it doesn't matter how much I sleep, they stick to me. :(

I'd go on for another hour complaining about my eyebags but let's not go there. Good day, folks. Don't be like me and please throw out your old make-up that's been there for a year or over.

Happy 18th Birthday Kevin~

Thursday, September 11, 2008

Today is Kevin's birthday! Congratulations! You are now officially 18 and old. =D Just kidding.

So anyway. For lunch break today, the whole design class except Albert and Kevin went to Senayan City. We wanted to buy Kevin a cake as a surprise! So the six of us (me, Listy, Livia, Martin, Petrick, Alyssa) all sat in one taxi...

Martin quickly took the front seat, which left us all girls at the back and...Petrick... Dum dum dum dummm....

I had to sit on Livia's lap and Pet had to sit...well, there. In front of Alyssa.

Bored on the taxi, we decided to do something fun...

Putting make-up on Pet Pet! Alyssa starts with the basic blush. Pet seems quite enthusiastic, seeing from his expression...

The outcome of blush:

And then....

He looked like a woman! Like a chinese woman from the olden days. We continued with eyeliner... but after a while, Pet realised that we were VERY near to Senayan City already. So he panicked:

Haha.... =D

Anyways. We bought the cake at Secret Recipe. Then we went back, and prepared the candles. We called Albert and told him to bring Kevin to the design studio where we will surprise him.

Surpriseee!!

Actually, the cake was supposed to write "No Smoking, Birthday Boy!" but for some odd reason, maybe because of the heat from the candles, the "No" curled up and died... It became "Smoking, Birthday Boy!"

...and Kevin says he likes it better this way. Lolz

Studio time was a bore.

We decided to be narcissistic with Listy's MAC webcam... which is love.

Kyaa Martin has two girls kissing him!

We are creating a pattern!

Listy and I kissed by miniature boys:

Birthday boy just squatting down there smiling... bwakak

Homoooo:

These are so fucking hilarious:

STRESS:

We make a good team, Tin!

The boobs are flat at the end. Rolfmao. Kevin is thinking of a way to make it more... "boob"

Kevin: "Martin, hold still. I need to measure the additional implants for your breasts."

Martin: "Oh no Kevin! You're tickling me!"

Kevin: "Hold still, Martin~"

....

...

Okay I better stop there it's getting disgusting. Bwahhah.

Martin with boobies... and... Kevin... what are you doing to Martin from behind there?! Oh the homo-ness

Ass like that... Even Albert can't resist it

Look! So cute:

Very creative of Kevin:

Me showing off my womanly muscles. Apparently Listy's arms are... well, dying...

Kevin's foot smells good!

.....RIGHT.

After studio time is over (which we spent basically at the library and at the studio taking photos), Livia and Listy chased Kevin with a slice of his birthday cake, and squashed it to his face!

He looks happy nonetheless =D

Anyways. It was a fun day! Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEVIN!
